Critical WordPress Security Update (CVE-2026-63030)

WordPress, the world’s most popular Content Management System (CMS), has recently disclosed a critical security vulnerability that affects certain versions of the software. Millions of websites worldwide rely on WordPress, making security updates especially important whenever a serious vulnerability is discovered. You probably also run WordPress.

What is the vulnerability?

The identity of the vulnerability on the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) program is CVE-2026-63030. It is a critical WordPress Core vulnerability that is part of the exploit chain commonly referred to as wp2shell. On its own, it is a REST API batch endpoint route confusion vulnerability, but when chained with CVE-2026-60137 (an SQL injection flaw), it can lead to unauthenticated Remote Code Execution (RCE) on vulnerable WordPress installations.

Think of your website as a house with locked doors that only you should be able to open.

This newly disclosed vulnerability is like discovering that one of those doors has a hidden weakness. While most people would never notice it, a cybercriminal who knows about it could potentially use that weakness to gain unauthorized access to your website.

If exploited, attackers could take control of a vulnerable website, install malicious software, steal information, or use the website for other harmful activities.

The good news is that the WordPress team has already released security updates that fix this issue. Keeping your website up to date is the best way to stay protected.
